My day in haiku

I've never really gotten into poetry.  If you asked me to recall the poems we studied in school, I could only respond with "Beans, beans, the musical fruit; the more you eat, the more you toot".

However, I have lately become quite fond of the humble haiku.  Haikus appeal to me because I have a Gen-Y kind of attention span, ie. shorter than a Facebook update.

Here is my Tuesday in haiku.

TUESDAY MORNING

pelicans bobbing
stop to do up my laces
sweating and panting

TUESDAY ON THE TRAIN

tattoo on ankle
is she pregnant or just fat?
man offers his seat

glistening dome head
fat and fleshy ear lobes hang
priority seat

woman on phone yells,
"whaddya reckon bout a drink?"
reading girl rolls eyes

TUESDAY AT THE OFFICE

sunlight through my blinds
subpoena lands on my desk
stir my cup of tea

client wants advice
facts are hard to understand
drawing diagram helps

TUESDAY EVENING

jade chopping chicken
snorting laughter and crisp wine
covet snakeskin heels

singing in the car
ABC Classic FM
super heart my friends

TUESDAY IN BED

ticking clock echoes
mind is buzzing and won't sleep
haikus in my head

Esther's haiku for the day:

magical paving
vinyl disguised as wood
what? paint costs how much?
